Crowns are one of the dental restoration treatments we offer at Hatfield Dental Care.

What is a crown?

A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over the visible portion of a tooth and can offer a permanent solution to a damaged tooth.

Once fitted, a crown should fit seamlessly into your mouth, looking, feeling and functioning just as your natural teeth do.

Why might I need a crown?

Crowns are needed when a tooth has been damaged or weakened to the point where a filling cannot fix it.

What are crowns made of?

Most commonly, crowns are made of ceramic or metal and, in some cases, are made of a combination of the two. Ceramic crowns are usually made of porcelain and offer the most natural looking option.

How will my crown be fitted?

Getting a crown usually takes two appointments. During the first appointment, we will remove the weakened parts of your tooth and prepare the tooth for the crown. We’ll then take an impression and fit you with a temporary crown. Your permanent crown will be custom made for you by a lab technician. When it’s ready, you’ll return to the dental practice and we will fit it for you.

What happens after I’ve had my crown fitted?

You might experience a little discomfort and some soreness in the gums for up to three days after getting your crown fitted. If this goes on any longer, please do let us know.

You can take care of your crown in just the same way as you would your natural teeth: brushing twice daily, regular flossing and check-ups with us here at Hatfield Dental Care.

I have recently been for my one year review on my dental implants that I had done at Hatfield dental care, I had two front dental implants, after shopping around I trusted this dental surgery & felt Asfar did not try to force other treatments on me that I did not need like other dentists did, I am so happy with them they look and feel like my real teeth and thats all I ever wanted after my accident causing loss of my front teeth, my implant surgery was no quick fix it started from my bone grafting to the final crown over many months all pain free and any questions or worries was dealt with asap which I appreciate, best money I have ever spent!
